Musician, comedian and actress Shonali, who you may remember from late-’90s/early-’00s indie rock band Ultrababyfat, has announced a new solo album, One Machine At A Time, which will be out July 26 via Little Lamb Recordings. She says it’s inspired by all the music she loves, including “indie rock, soul, psychedelic and retro sounds of the 70s, 80s, and 90s along with the folk singer-songwriter and country influences of my time growing up in Nashville, Tennessee.”
The new single off the record is the dark-n-dreamy “Driving Nowhere,” which comes with a video featuring comedian, guitar-shredder and occasional BrooklynVegan contributor Dave Hill. “I was fortunate to hook up with director Andrew Hooper (Jon Spencer, Marcellus Hall, The Dollyrots) who is prolific when it comes to coming up with video ideas and also has a great enthusiasm for music and understanding an artist’s vision,” says Shonali. “He instantaneously understood the Lost Highway vibes of this song.” The video premieres in this post and you can watch below.
Shonali has a short tour planned for August, beginning with a record release show at NYC’s Bowery Electric on 8/16 with Dave Hill and Kissed by an Animal. All dates are listed below.
