Craftsman, whiskey lover and actor Nick Offerman has released a song in support of the presidential campaign of Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz. “For obvious reasons, there are a lot of Republicans who are suddenly very Kamala-curious,” Nick says in the intro to the video he made for “Proud to Be a Kamala Man.” “There are all these organizations, Republicans for Kamala, and it’s very exciting…let me offer you a song that is from the point of view of one of these Republicans, one of these good citizens, who was formerly blinded by misinformation and has now found their way clear to decency.”
Nick also calls “Proud to be a Kamala Man” a “rousing anthem about a former Republican voter awakening to the crapulent, unelectable qualities of the GOP ticket and instead seeing his way clear to voting for the decency on offer with our charismatic and powerful VP Kamala Harris and her running mate Minnesota Governor and Top Man Tim Walz.” He adds, “Let this (probably) award-winning ballad salve the open wounds of right-wing hate and disinformation, and welcome you to the team of acceptance that comprehends we’re all sharing Mother Nature’s creation.”
What Nick doesn’t mention is that “Proud to Be a Kamala Man” is also a parody of Lee Greenwood’s 1984 jingoistic country hit “God Bless the USA” which now has a chorus of “It’s time to stand up and face the facts / after all the scams and tricks / He’s a half-assed Putin wannabe / Yes, Trump’s a fucking dick.” It’s not subtle but these are not subtle times.
