Matt Rogers and Bowen Yang‘s very popular podcast Las Culturistas will be hosting their their third annual Culture Awards this summer, and after two years at Lincoln Center are moving the “fake awards show” to Brooklyn’s Kings Theatre on June 15.
Tickets for the 2024 Culture Awards go on sale Friday, April 5 at 10 AM with presales starting Wednesday, April 3 at 10 AM with password CULTCH.
If you’re unfamiliar with the Culture Awards, it usually features over 100 made up categories that in years past have included near-normal award show fare like the Cate Blanchett Award for Good Acting (it went to Cate Blanchett in 2023) and Best Taylor Swift (which has gone to Taylor Swift the last two years), but also features things like Best Skill to Have (“Changing a Tire” won). Both Blanchett and Swift have appeared at previous Culture Awards, via video, in years past.
As to why the Culture Awards are moving from Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park to Kings Theatre, Yang told The Hollywood Reporter, “We are moving indoors so that people can enjoy upholstered seating, finally. I think people are too used to uncomfortable posterior resistance. I think they’re used to hard plastic chairs. Since our bar basement days, we have not given them a full awards show experience. And we are aiming to give that holistic packaging of being an honest-to-goodness awards show.”
